General feedback for Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle - Whole Series Empty
PostSubject: My opinion on Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle as a whole   General feedback for Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle - Whole Series EmptyTue Jun 19, 2012 9:11 am

It's a classic that deserves some kind of comeback. All three games had their pros and cons, but I love every single one.

The first game had fun gameplay and good music. The only real downside would be that the graphics need work, but then again this was one of the first titles of the Sega Genesis. It was also a very hard game, but I've made it to Mr. X before, and the last time I did better than I usually did(I used to be out of lives, out of continues, and low on health when I managed to defeat him).

Streets of Rage 2, as I understand, is the most well-received entry of the series, and it is not hard to see why. Nearly everything about it is great. It's only the second game and it already surpasses the graphics and gameplay mechanics of the original. The only real thing complaint-worthy is that some parts are crawling with annoying enemies and there is only one ending, when the first had a good ending where the heroes stopped Mr. X, and a bad ending where one of them became the leader of the syndicate.

Streets of Rage 3 is probably the one entry of the game that gets the most flak. And that's primarily because the English powers-that-be of Sega censored it and changed the plot, as well as making the game harder than the Japanese version. The English version's Easy Mode is really the Japanese version's Normal Mode, and Normal Mode is really Hard Mode, and so on. In Japan. the Easy Mode is much easier(bosses have only one bar of health apiece, for instance) and there are no penalties for playing the game on that difficulty. No Robot X teasing you for choosing the easiest difficulty at Stage 5! One of the few redeeming qualities of the game is that it has multiple endings like the first game. Aside from the Robot X ending you get in Stage 5 if you play the English version on Easy, there are also endings where you defeat Shiva again as the final boss and end up at a dead end after Mr. X(when you fail to save Ivan Petrov/Police Chief in Stage 6), defeat Mr. X but fail to save the city(save Ivan/Chief and let time run out during Mr. X fight), and defeat Mr. X and save the day(same as before, but beat Mr. X before time runs out).

The series never really got a remake or new game, but Sega only failed to do so because the American branches apparently don't know about the series. I have played the fan remake(which I got AFTER Sega forced Bomber Games to shut it down), and it has everything I want in a new Streets of Rage game(a reunion of every playable character in the series including Adam Hunter, at least one new playable character, multiple endings, and tons of unlockable content). Sega has gotten wiser to what its fans want(they've released a new Shinobi for the 3DS that got mixed reviews, and Sonic Generations has been claimed by many to be the best Sonic the Hedgehog game ever made), so we may see a new entry to this long-forgotten series yet. Your thoughts?

After reading your full reviews for SOR 1/2 and 3, you really enjoy the great times and experience a lot with these 3 series. I can sense you must have many interesting moments and actions during those days you playthrough the game.

In my opinion, Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle is the best beat-em-up series ever made.

During my times i actually played many Sega games sice 18 years ago, but this was the best series like you said which Sega ever made. I recently come back for SOR 3/BK 3 and slowly build up my skills because i decided to record my play throughs.

I pretty much grew up with Streets of Rage ever since I first got the Sega Genesis. It's been one of the first games I've played. And I just have to say that it is a great video games series. All the kicks, punches, body slams, jump kicks, items, boss fights, and everything else was fun to experience. I've always wondered what it would be like if they could make a movie about it.

I'm pretty much new to the forum, and my name is Onyx, but you can call me Mike if you want. afro

Well you have great times with your Sega console and your Streets of Rage game, i agree with you because i first start off from Street Fighter 2 on the NES console then later my cousin's dad bought in the SEGA system. It was year 1992 so after that moment me and my cousin went boring with some other games as he's out during weekends i went out to rent the Bare Knuckle 3 from the game shop because his dad wasn't around or else i'll ask him to buy it.

Even it's a 3 days rental for 5 bucks which is Singapore dollars, but i actually complete the game on the first night. (Saturday) that was my most memorable night i'm playing this game alone, too bad my cousin wasn't with me but after all i enjoy playing the whole game.

I globally agree with you but the greatest lack I found in Streets of Rage 1 is the fact there is no special manoeuvre of extrication like in the following episodes and when a karate expert enchains the kicks in your face in the level 8 it just pisses me off.

I think Streets of Rage is a bit harder compare to SOR2 and 3, you only can use police as special also the SOR heroes moves are limited. More important you still gain a precious experiences there.

The streets of rage series is the best beat'em'up ever. Finally a beat'em'up with as many moves as a figthing game. Number 2 is the best and most balanced. I grew up playing nintendo so until I discovered SOR2 I thought tmnt 2 / 3 were the best ones out there.
